At the airport
(1) Interpreter: Excuse me, but aren’t you Mr. Greene from London?
(2) Guest: Yes, I’m Andrew R. Greene, Managing-Director (總裁) of my company. I’m from London.
(3) I: How do you do, Mr. Greene? I’m Li Hsing, an interpreter from the China machinery Import and Export Corporation. May I introduce you to our director?
(4) Host: 歡迎你來(lái)到中國(guó)，格林先生。您好嗎?
(5) G：How do you do? It’s very kind of you to come and meet me at the airport, sir.
(6) H: 不要客氣。怎么樣，一路上好嗎?
(7) G：Pretty good, except a little bumping over Indian Ocean. It’s a fine day, isn’t it?
(8) H: 天氣不錯(cuò)。剛才我看了機(jī)場(chǎng)的顯示屏(display screen)，此時(shí)進(jìn)入北京空港的航班相當(dāng)多。
(9) G：Yes， I think so…..It seems there are quite a few long queues over there.
(10) H: 是的。抵港的旅客們?cè)诘群蜻叿罊z查站的官員們(officer of the border Check-Post)檢查護(hù)照和簽證，并加蓋入境日戳。我想，可請(qǐng)譯員李先生持你的護(hù)照去邊檢辦公室辦手續(xù)(entry formalities)。我們可以去休息廳喝茶。
(11) G: Thank you. Here is you passport. (In the Waiting Hall and later at the Luggage Claim area)
(12) G: 格林先生，我們就坐在這里休息一會(huì)兒。李先生很快就回來(lái)。
(13) G：That’ll be very nice of him.
(14) H: 你喜歡喝紅茶，還是喝綠茶?
(15) G：Jasimine tea, please，if it’s not inconvenient。
(The interpreter comes back)
(16) Int: Mr. Greene, your passport has been duly stamped. Next you have to go to the Luggage Claim area (行李認(rèn)領(lǐng)處) to identify your luggage.
(17) G: Oh, the conveyer-belt system(傳送帶系統(tǒng)) runs so efficiently. There, that one is my luggage…Now, I’ve got it.
(At the customs)
(18) Officer: 你有什么東西要報(bào)關(guān)嗎?
(19) G：No， I don’t think so. I have nothing but personal effects (個(gè)人物品). Here is the Declaration Form (報(bào)關(guān)單). It was given to me on board the plane, and I’ve filled it out.
(20) O：好，你的行李已經(jīng)通過(guò)了。請(qǐng)保留好這份蓋了章的報(bào)關(guān)單。
(21) G：Thanks a lot.
(22) H: 李先生替你找到了一輛行李推車(chē)。可以把行李放上去。
(23) G：It’s very thoughtful of you and Mr. Li. Thanks.
(24) H:
(On the way to the hotel)
(25) G: I’ve been to many places in the world, Mr. Director, but I must say this is one of the best-run airports I’ve ever seen.
(26) H: 謝謝你的好意。你看到了什么缺點(diǎn)的話，還希望予以指出。
(27) G：Well, from what I saw at the airport this morning, I don’t think there’s anything that needs improvement; I didn’t see any shortcomings at all.
(28) H: 格林先生這是第一次來(lái)訪問(wèn)中國(guó)，對(duì)嗎?
(29) G: Yes. I’ve long wanted to come to China. There are quite a few places of interest in Beijing I’d like to see, but business comes first, of course.
(30) H: 可以安排。我們?cè)副M最大努力使您在北京過(guò)得很愉快。
(31) G：That’s very nice of you, Mr. Director.
