　　The International Children’s Day had its origin in Turkey in 1920 and later in the World Conference in Geneva, Switzerland,which 54 representatives from different countries gathered together to convene the first World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in 1925.

　　It is not clear as to why June 1 was chosen as the International Children’s Day: one theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva.

　　為了悼念利迪策村和全世界所有在戰爭中死難的兒童，反對帝國主義戰爭販子虐殺、毒害兒童，保障兒童的權利，1949年11月在蘇聯首都莫斯科召開的`國際民主婦女聯合會理事會通過一項決議，正式決定每年的6月1日為全世界兒童的節日，即六一國際兒童節。

　　目前世界上不少國家將6月1日定為兒童的節日，稱為國際兒童節。然而，在歐美國家，兒童節的日期各不相同，而且往往很少舉行社會公眾性的慶祝活動。
